City of Pearland Settles with Blue Ridge Landfill
  • Blue Ridge agrees to reduce Class I* waste by 50%
  • Class I waste will be covered with 6 inches of soil every day (TCEQ requires only 1)
  • Quarterly surface air-emission monitoring of Class I waste
  • Ten foot thick compacted clay liner to be constructed in Class I areas (7 feet thicker than required by TCEQ)
  • Ten additional monitoring wells to be constructed (total of 43) to check for underground water contamination
  • Agreed to limit the height of the landfill to 60 feet for 12 years, then a maximum of 130 feet for an additional 8 years.
  • Grade breaks and landscape screening on easatern slop to minimize visual impact
  • Decreased hours of operation from 24 hours a day, year round to 4 am to 7 pm weedays, and 5:30 am to 6 pm on Saturdays, closed on Sundays.
  • Prohibits waste trucks from using Shadow Creek Parkway east of FM521
* Class I waste includes medical waste,
